With globalization,cultural industry has been growing rapidly and biography plays an important role in cultural exchange.Therefore,the mutual translation of biography has gradually shown a more extensive and far-reaching influence.Biographical literature is characterized by historicity and literariness,involving politics,economy,history and culture,local customs and other aspects.The translator selects Peter Crouch’s autobiography how to be a footballer(Excerpts)as the source text in this report,and it reveals professional players’ life and presents a unique and wonderful football world to the readers.According to the text types,Peter Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation theory is adopted to guide translation in this report.As the main participant in the translation practice,the translator gives full play to individual initiative by conveying information accurately from vocabulary to sentences.The translator also tries to reproduce the author’s thinking process and writing style of the source text.Meanwhile,considering the differences in language,cultural background and ways of thinking between the author and the target language reader,the translator improves the expression effect by using translation techniques,adjusts the sentence order to conform to Chinese expression,and processes cultural factors to help the target language reader understand meanings of the source text.The report is divided into five parts.The first chapter is the task description,including the brief introduction to the author and the book,and background of the task.The translator mainly summarizes preparation of the translation,translation process and post-translation in the task process.The third chapter is the theoretical basis,which introduces the development and content of semantic translation and communicative translation.Examples are analyzed under the guidance of semantic translation and communicative translation in the next chapter.In the fifth chapter,the translator points out gains and limitations in the translation practice.
