On The Formation And Development Of The Theory "Mass Line" And Dong Biwu's Contribution To It

With the rapid development of social economy,China now has entered into the transformation stage when difficulties and problems are increasing.One major problem is that there are occasions when economic growth were sought at the expense of people's interests.However,the position and the cornerstone of the CPC's governance consist in its dealing properly with the relationship between different sides,solving the problems that aroused strong resentment among the general public,and steadfastly following the principle of "from the masses,to the masses," which are also concerned about the immediate interests and welfare of the people.Dong Biwu(1886-1975)was a committed Marxist and proletarian revolutionary.He has made material contribution to the nation's socialist revolution and construction,and practice the principle of "from the masses,to the masses" consciously all his life.Therefore,it is of great value to make a study on Dong Biwu's life story and his mass line,which is also significant for the research on the history of the Communist Party of China.The thesis is divided into three parts.The first part mainly researches on the formative process of Dong's mass line.During the old-democratic revolution(1840-1919),he has shown his sense of service and doing mass work,which was partly due to the family education,and a motivating awareness of serving for the mass in his study.As the revolution has ushered into a new period(1919-1949)in the history,especially when the Communist Party of China was founded and came to take the lead of the revolution,Dong's mass line thought took its initial shape.While in the great revolution period(1924-1927),the mass line has already been correctly applied and constantly developed in practice by Dong Biwu and Mao Zedong.Dong firmly carried out the principle "from the masses,to the masses" not only in the wartime.Thus the second part focus on the development of Dong's mass line.After the founding of People's Republic of China,Dong put forward that it was the government of the people,both the party and the government institutions should remain honest and clean and followed the mass line in its governance.The last part concludes the contributions that Dong has made to the principle of "from the masses,to the masses" and the enlightenment for nowadays.Dong Biwu was not only a theorist but a devoted practitioner.Generally,the research on Dong's mass line has practical meaning,for it constitutes the fine traditions that the CPC should inherit and carry forward.Most importantly,the CPC should have a global outlook,and work out efficient principles and policies based on actual conditions at home to make impressive achievements in the socialist modernization drive.
