Research On Giddens's Political Thought Of The Climate Change

Climate change has brought great challenges to human society,which has aroused great concern from the people and the government.Since the 1980s,climate change has been put on a political agenda,and the political jockeying has already begun among various countries in the world for carbon emission rights and discourse dominance.Meanwhile,studies on climate change in academia have been gradually carried out and deepened.First,it is natural science,then economics,later sociology,ethics and so on.However,politics research on climate change is to some degree still a latecomer,it is almost in study of climate negotiations,geopolitics,and climate change and the study of systematic political analysis on climate change is far from comprehensive and mature.Of course,compared with other disciplines,the investigation in this field is less both abroad and profound.Anthony Giddens,one of the greatest and most influential political scientists of the day,was acutely aware of the importance of the question that "the question of climate change has not been explored in a political sense so far",so he turned the research interests to climate change for filling in this gap of "political scarcity".Giddens is a high-yield scholar,his thought is large,complex but coherent,the core of its ideological system lies in rethinking and reconstructing the thoughts on modernity,and modernity motivated by the emancipatory politics.With it,problems as ecological damage appeared.In order to reconstruct the modern society he put forward the idea of life politics.In essence,Giddens's research on climate change,as a part of his life politics and the reconstruction of modernity,is concatenate with his researches on globalization,risk society,and ecological reconstruction.Climate Change Politics as the first study of climate change in political science and published in 2009,has been getting high academic attention and extensive discussion in the academic community,and it has an important influence and status.This thesis focuses on the book Climate Change Politics,I try to gather as much materials covering Giddens' and others as I can to conduct a comprehensive and systematic study of Giddens' climate politics.This paper comprehensively sums up the Giddens climate political thought on basis of detailed analysis of the contents of Giddens' climate and political thought and constructs the logical system and theoretical framework of Giddens' climate political thought by using the basic analytical method of political theory.More specifically this article is divided into four parts:The first part is the introduction.This part mainly elaborates the research origin,the research significance,the related domestic and research summary,the research method and the innovation of the paper.Giddens gave the political significance of climate change and put forward a number of original new concepts and new programs,which will provide some references for climate change governance to China.The second part analyzes the background of Giddens' climate politics.Climate change is an unquestionable reality,its causes are mainly caused by a large number of anthropogenic emissions of carbon dioxide,if international community doesn't have closer collaboration in climate change,global warming will bring a huge threat to the world.Now global climate political negotiations have been launched more than 20 years,but it did not make any real progress.Giddens's research on climate change is based on the research of his earlier researches,which is a series of reflections on risk society,globalization and modernity.Climate politics,it may be said,is a part of Giddens's reconstruction of modernity.The third part summarizes and analyzes the contents of Giddens' climate politics."Giddens paradox",which means the plight of climate politics,is the origin that Giddens explored climate politics,in other word,that is the logical starting point of Giddens climate politics."Giddens paradox" can be explained from five levels,and in real life,whatever the individual,domestic and international levels,there is "Giddens paradox".The political program to deal with climate change is the core of Giddens'climate political thought,which is content rich but information fragmented.If we try to summarize the content of his climate political thought,we must interpret from multiple dimensions of political science.In the subject of climate politics,Giddens's climate politics action includes "ensuring state",enterprises and non-governmental organizations,people,etc.;in the climate political value,the value of the political system is based on realism,optimism and elitism;in the action program,Giddens climate politics action program is mainly embodied in political convergence and economic convergence,technological innovation and taxation mechanisms,international negotiations and multilateral cooperation.It is Giddens climate politics aspirations and a better vision to achieve international climate and political multilateral cooperation and to achieve the first to adapt to the state through the above programs and principles,if these two goals were achieved,that would means the end of the Giddens paradox.This is a way to construct the logical system of Giddens' climate political thought that through the logical starting point-put forward the problems that the climate politics need to solve,to the logical intermediate link-how to solve the problem of climate change from the perspective of political science,and then to the logical end-to achieve the target.The fourth part is to evaluate the thought of Giddens climate politics and put forward its references to China's response to climate change.Giddens created the path of political science of climate change,many of his climate political ideas are highly original,and many programs have realistic guiding significance.However,there is no doubt that there are limits on Giddens climate politics,we should be objective to evaluate it.China,as one of the countries which most threatened by climate change,has to recognize the urgency of climate governance in face of internal and external problems of climate problems.It is necessary to formulate a series of strategic objectives and policies to mitigate and adapt to climate change to improve China's ability to cope with climate change and gain more discourse on the stage of global climate politics.We should treat Giddens climate political thinking fairly to meet the essence in order to apply it to govern China's climate problems.
