As a country with the largest Muslim population across the world,Indonesia has been affected by Islamic factors in almost all respects. After Suharto left office,Indonesia began its democratization reform, which offered an opportunity for Islamic factors to stage a comeback in political circle.During the post-Suharto period, domestic environment differs as different presidents took office, therefore the influence of Islamic factors changed based on different domestic environments during each presidential period, the Islamic factor performed differently during each session of the government and had a different influence on diplomacy. From this perspective, the paper discussed the role and function of Islamic factors in Indonesia's diplomacy during different periods, based on the reference of historical reality of Indonesia, and the applying of research methods like literature analysis and comparative analysis approach. As for its structure, firstly, the paper briefed the democratic reform in Indonesia and the transformations of Islamic forces since the post-Suharto period.Second,it analyzes how Islamic factors influence Indonesia's diplomatic approaches and carriers.Thirdly,it highlights the role and influence of Islamic factors in each period through particular events.Although Indonesia's domestic Islamic forces continued to expand and its influence on the country's diplomacy in the post-Suharto era kept increasing and assumed positive trends, its impact still limited and in most cases it can't generate substantive results. The diplomacy of the country is constrained by a variety of factors, requiring the Indonesian government, when coping with foreign relations,to take into account the existence of Islamic factors to strike a balance between various relevant factors and interests.
