Social Class Differences In Life Satisfaction

The residents lives in Nanning Xixiangtang district are taken as subject investigated.The researcher try to analyze and compare the life satisfaction of different social class.Figuring out the influencing factors of the life satisfaction of different social class.According to the results,some policy recommendations can be proposed.Through the assistance of the grass-roots government,the research group sent out self-administered questionnaires to randomly selected residents in order to collect the measurement of their subjective attitude and the basic social demography factors.This paper selects 831 questionnaires according to requirements.On the basis of reference group theory,social comparison theory,social stratification theory,and past researchers' experience,the researcher assumed subjective factors and objective factors that may affect life satisfaction.The data analysis software is used to analyze the collected data.The process of statistical analysis is divided into three parts.First of all,testing the validity and reliability of the questionnaire,to determine whether the questionnaire can actually and effectively measure life satisfaction.Secondly,calculating the score of life satisfaction of all social classes.This part mainly discusses the difference of life satisfaction among the respondents with different social demography characteristics in the same class.Lastly,we get multiple regression analysis of sample data to find out which factors affect the degree of life satisfaction.The results show that there are great differences in the factors that affect life satisfaction within different classes.Only the employees of the business and service industry verify the view that income affects the satisfaction of life.The life satisfaction of other classes is more influenced by subjective factors.On the whole,the social class is significantly related to the life satisfaction of the residents in Naning Xixiangtang district.Although the regression coefficient is small,it can still prove that the higher the social class is,the higher the life satisfaction is.The relative position and the sense of social equity,which is proposed under the theory of reference group and social comparison,have significant influence on life satisfaction.The sense of gain based on the theory of social stratification is also significantly related to people's life satisfaction.Generally speaking,the life satisfaction of most classes is in the middle level.But for the unemployed and semi-unemployed people in the urban and rural areas,which is easy to become a marginal social group,should be valued and helped.The choice of the reference group and the different feelings of comparing with others will affect the life satisfaction of the people of different social class.The more resources people get from society,the higher their life satisfaction is.
