Germany was occupied by Allied nation in the early post-war period(1945-1950).The increasing tense international situation reflected in the refugee policy as well.The three governments,American,Britain,Soviet,reached the decision in Potsdam Conference about transfer to Germany of German population,or element thereof,remaining in Poland,Czechoslovakia and Hungary.German residents lived in eastern lost territory and Eastern European were forced to migrate becoming expellees or refugees.But there was no unified refugee policy between the Western zones and Soviet zone.German expellees were the witness of history and political stakes of the two great powers.The American and Soviet's relations changed from cooperation to confliction which promoted the process of western Germany economics recovery in some extent and expellee integration.This paper discusses German expellees,forming reasons,identity change and social effect in the transfer process by taking western German as an example,intended to explore the establishment of nation state in Eastern Europe and differences between the West and the East in ideology,political interests and development model after World war?.To achieve this,the whole passage divided into three parts:The first part summarizes the basic situation of Germans in Eastern Europe,including their origin,distribution and number.One this basis,the second part analyzes from the two perspectives of emigration and immigration,taking advantage of push and pull theory to explore the similarity between Eastern Europe state's compelled migration,and the reason why Western Country agreed.The third part introduce the pressure that German expellees brought to Western Zone and federal Germany's economy was recover rapidly with the coming of refugees.This thesis suggests that German expellees was the biggest group of the Refugee flows in the aftermath of World war ?.Their situation before the end of war has much deeper historical roots,with the join forces of War and Politics,German expellees from Eastern Europe become relevant countries' chip pieces to transfer domestic conflicts.The west German government took various measures to help resettlement of refugees back into the society and fully developed their advantages to promote economic recovered very quickly,which proved the tendency of taking nation-state construction and forecast there is no absolute opposition between refugees receiving and society developing.
