Thrift is one of the traditional virtues from the Chinese nation an important part in Chinese traditional culture,and the magic instrument for the Chinese nation to survive and develop.With the rapid economic development,the diversification of public opinions and the penetration of Western consumerism,unhealthy ways and customs like extravagance and waste,the pursuit of pleasure and mutual competition among people are gaining momentum day by day.This paper makes collation and analysis on the connotation of the traditional thrifty culture and explores the contemporary value of traditional thrifty culture thus to achieve its application in today's society.The thrifty attitudes and behaviors have been effectively inherited in today's society,while there're also many failings mainly reflected as:firstly,the improper promotion and education.Thrift requires the three forces of families,the society and schools to work together,while today's society pays less and less attention to the thrift.Secondly,the lack of rules and norms.The nation has imperfect substantive regulations on thrift,which results in fragile legal enforcement and weak constraint on extravagance and waste.Thirdly,inappropriate social misconducts.People's thrift thought gets weakened,and behaviors of luxury,corruption,extravagance and waste get common.The atmosphere of hedonism and mutual competition gets rampant.Fourth,the consumption and investment are out of place.Affected by Western consumerism,people get caught in the consumption misunderstanding of excessive consumption and comparative consumption.Fifth,the use of nature is out of control.China consumes too many resources with low utilization rates,and obtain excessively from the nature,particularly the waste of resources is very serious.Factors causing the thrift dilemma in the society are various,the 1st one is the weakening from the mainstream public opinion;the 2nd is the rising of hedonism momentum;the 3rd is that the bad habit of mutual competition could survive;the 4th is that Western consumerism is in the expanding state;and the 5th is that the society is relatively affluent for comparisons.On how to promote the contemporary value of traditional thrifty culture and apply it in the social construction,this article starts from the following five aspects.Firstly,establish the thrifty ideas for everyone with the supporting guide value.Secondly,cultivate families to draw on traditional habits with the demonstration motivational value.Thirdly,form the thrifty atmosphere for the society with wind direction to identity the value.Fourthly,promote the national thrift restraint mechanism with tendency to lead values.Fifthly,maintain the nature and inherit the environment with the sustainable value.
