The formation of nation-state is an important subject in the study of modern European and even world history.Starting from the definition of printing capitalism,Benedict Anderson defines a nation as a "imagined community" which is essentially limited and enjoys a certain sovereignty, providing a view of political communication research on the definition and understanding of modem nation states.Under the background of the formation of printing media, the paper analyzes the transmission characteristics of the printing media as a mass media, and tries to clarify that the sustainable development of printing media has broken the monopoly position of the sacred language of the church in the late Middle-Ages,digesting the religious community, and assisting the struggle against the monarchy when the feudal monarchy tried to strengthen its power, playing a prelude for the formation of the nation-state.Thus the cultural identity of the imagined community is constructed by unifying the shape of national language, forming nationalism and spreading the social and cultural identity of national life;furthermore, the identity of citizen in civil society, national state sovereignty and national geographical boundary constructs the political identity on which the nation-state depends. Therefore, the construction of modern " nationality-state " is summed up as two major construction paths of cultural identity and political identity.
