Study On The Cultural Construction Of Contemporary Filial Piety

Filial piety constitutes an integral part of the moral contents of the Chinese traditional family precepts.Looking through the traditional family precepts across the generations,it can be noticed that filial piety has always been an indispensable topic in discussions on the cultivation of moral integrity.Despite the fact that traditional family precepts was a concept that was deeply rooted during and into the feudal society,and that both its strong and weak points are considerably conspicuous,but some contents in particular,are worth inheriting and promoting,for instance,those on teaching and reminding family descendants to bear filial piety in mind and put it into practice.This is admittedly true,especially in today’s society,where the values of filial piety require urgent reinvigoration,it is our historical mission as well as duty of the times to modernize this precious cultural heritage and to ensure that filial piety can play a valuable role and contribute in the cultural reconstruction of filial piety.In this regard,this paper is based upon the cultural perspective of Chinese traditional family instructions.It has employed various methods,such as the literature review and the historical method.First,the purpose and content of filial piety education in traditional family instructions were abstracted and analyzed.Second,the existing problems in the construction of contemporary filial piety culture were arranged and their causes summed up.And last but not least,the attempt to address those existing problems in the construction of contemporary filial piety culture via the “filial piety” concept in traditional family instructions were made.Studying the cultural construction of the filial piety from the cultural perspective of traditional family precepts is of great academic value for exploring the cultural essence of Chinese filial piety and passing on the legacy of China’s outstanding cultural heritage.Meanwhile,the study is also of great practical significance for improving the ideological and ethical standards of individuals,solving various transitional problems in the family brought about by the relationships between different generations,as well as constructing the culture of filial piety under the new generational trend.
