The Media Construction Of Collective Memory About Hong Kong’s Return

The year 2017 marks the 20 th anniversary of the Hong Kong’s return.The Chinese press has reported and focused on this major historical event.In the process of the formation of the collective memory of "Hong Kong’s return",the construction of the media is an important part.Taking People’s Daily and Hong Kong’s Wen Wei Po as the research object,this article analyzes the media’s coverage of Hong Kong’s return to collective memory by analyzing the commemoration report on Hong Kong’s return published by the two newspapers in 2017.This will help us to view the media’s impact on the reproduction and construction of memories more comprehensively and objectively.It will also illustrate how the media uses frameworks and methods to commemorate history and construct collective memory and try to show the social,media and political aspects behind it Multiple interaction between the three.In the process of research,this paper first analyzes the framework construction of the relevant reports of the People’s Daily and Hong Kong wenhui in 2017 from the macro level.Through the construction category and content analysis method,to analyze the two newspapers in quantity,the pages,report form and theme Settings is how to construct the return of Hong Kong’s collective memory,and analyze the two newspapers architecture of collective memory and perspectives.Second,the study analyzes the textual features of the content from the micro level.From "political level","economy and society","relationship between the two places" and other dimensions to explore "People’s Daily" and "Hong Kong Wen Wei Po" on Hong Kong’s return to collective memory construction process.In the research method,this part makes use of Fairclough’s discourse analytic method synthetically and discourse analysis of the coverage of the two newspapers from the three dimensions of text,discourse and social practice,trying to interpret the deep meaning hidden in the text.Finally,through the above analysis,it is found that People’s Daily and Hong Kong’s Wen Wei Po are inevitably under the control of the country’s mainstream ideology(power)in the process of building Hong Kong’s return to collective memory,influencing and shaping the audience’s views on "one country,two systems","Development" based collective memory of the return of Hong Kong.This is the similarity of the two newspapers in building collective memory in Hong Kong.On theother hand,the construction of collective memory by the media is a process of selective reporting(highlighting,reproduction and obscuring).According to the nature of the media and the audience,there are differences in the concrete construction and different Collective memory.This is the difference between the two newspapers.In the research method,this paper mainly uses content analysis and discourse analysis.Content analysis in literature content as the research object,through the construction category,in 2017,the People’s Daily,the Hong Kong newspaper wen wei Po "reported about Hong Kong’s return to commemorate system,quantitative analysis,in order to find out the hidden data in a text content,thus obtain a more accurate,scientific and comprehensive conclusion.In terms of discourse analysis,discourse analysis is carried out from three aspects: text,discourse and social practice to People’s Daily and Hong Kong’s Wen Wei Po.The text orientation focuses on the linguistic analysis of news reports.The orientation of discourse practice is mainly about the production process and the nature of the interpretation process in news reports.The social practice orientation is mainly the ideology of news report and the social attribute inclined to discourse.
