The aim of the thesis is to make an analysis of China's deployment of the necessary defense facilities in the South China Sea and their impact on regional peace and security. The thesis explained the South China Sea territorial disputes between China,Malaysia,Indonesia,Brunei,Vietnam and Philippines as it is in this context that China's deployment of the necessary defense facilities on its own sovereign territories has received mixed responses. The research examines what necessitated the deployment of the necessary defense facilities in the SCS by China and what has been the response of the claimant and non-claimant states. The study also shows that the deployment of the necessary defense facilities has been received with mixed feelings. The study uses the theories of Confucianism pacifism as well as classical realism to understand the aims behind the deployment of the necessary defense facilities.Activities of the other claimant and non-claimant states in the South China Sea were reviewed. The study discloses that that China's deployment of the necessary defense facilities is not in any way in pursuance of militarization hence does not impact on regional peace and security adversely. |
