Han Family In Han Zhai:A Family's Social Memory

The social memory of a family highlights the community's inheritance of traditions,which has condensed through generations into the family culture and internalized into social memories within the family.Social memory is the internal driving force of the family culture.It is formed through accumulation of the family members' life practice and family development,which accompanied by the development of the individual and group.Family members realize the communication and transmission of emotion through social memory.The development of the family gave birth to the family's social memory,which further conveyed the family's emotional memory.Family members perfected connotation of the family customs by continuing to inherit and transmit the family's emotional memory.This social memory is an invisible reflex of cultural customs and social life in specific regions.The tangible objects such as the built ancestral temple and written genealogical book of a family are used to call and retain memory.Therefore,this paper takes the ancestral temple and family's genealogical book as the breakthrough point for the case study of the Han family in Han Zhai Village,Xi-Hai-Gu area of Ningxia,analyses and reflects the material space,cultural heritage and the subjects of the Han family,presents the development and changes of the Han family from the time they settled in Han Zhai Village and their social memory transmission.This research aims to explore the internal and external mechanisms of ethnic development and social relation from the perspective of ethnic sociology.It uses interview,participant observation,and literature review and other related sociological research methods,through going deep into the field and consulting local archives,county records,and genealogy,as well as the collection of oral historical materials and other folk literature,to discuss the inheritance and presentation of the Han family social memory from the aspects of traditional etiquette,emotional memory,and family customs.Then,explore the social interaction of the Han family in the development process and the cultural significance implied by the ancestral temple and the family customs through studying the Han Zhai village's social structure,the Han family structure and its development history,population reproduction and its emotional memory and transmission.And present a family's morphological characteristics and development history,regional social characteristics and internal life of the Han family and daily interaction of the family members.
