Xiangxi,with its treacherous mountains and devious rivers,is a brewing ground for shamanism.The special regional environment has created the unique cultural pattern of the Miao people in Xiangxi,which makes the Miao culture harbor a strong supply of mythological and religious touches,highlighting the distinctive cultural characteristics of the grass roots.China is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country.Among the 56 ethnic minority families in China,Xiangxi is mainly inhabited by the Tujia and Miao peoples as the main ethnic minority,and its importance is also embodied in the magnificent yet unique culture pattern.The holy mountain worship of the Miao people in Xiangxi is a unique cultural pattern formed under such a grand environment.It is a kind of shamanist carrier and form based on the Miao people's "animism" and "nature worship",and plays an important role in the life of the Miao people in Xiangxi.This paper's basis is on the study of the holy mountain worship of Lvdong Mountain in Baojing County;by positioning it in the light of the cultural patterns of the Miao people in Xiangxi,this paper engages in exploring the history and culture of the Miao people in Lvdong Mountain,its natural environment and its human environment with the aid of relevant literature and field investigation in Lvdong Mountain.The worship of the "holy mountain" is discussed,along with the connotation and the characteristics of the worship of the "holy mountain" by the Miao people.In addition,the contemporary value of the worship of the "holy mountain" by the Miao people of Lvdong Mountain is discussed in order to fully uncover the veil of the worship of the "holy mountain".In general,the author hopes to contribute the meagre efforts for the study and transmission of the ethnic culture of Xiangxi and its overall prosperity.The introduction mainly discusses the background of this topic,and discusses the academic value and practical significance of this topic.In the Xiangxi region inhabited by the Miao people where the local,exotic culture is prevalent,it is conducive to the understanding of the religious culture essence of the Miao people and better acceptance of the Miao religious culture by outlanders.The second chapter is the field investigation,enclosing the investigation of the history and culture of the Miao people in Lvdong Mountain,as well as the natural environment and the humanistic environment.The third chapter mainly elucidates the general situation of the worship of Lvdong Mountain,the "holy mountain" by the Miao people.Xiangxi has been associated with shamanism since long before,and the strong shamanist culture creates the peripheral environment for the worship of the mountain god.In terms of the geographical meaning and the geographical origin,Lvdong Mountain can be crowned the geographical symbol of the Miao's "holy mountain".The mysterious Badai sacrificial ceremony can be equated to be the cultural symbol of the "holy mountain" worship by the Miao people of Lvdong Mountain.The fourth chapters mainly probes into the myths and legends of the "holy mountain",the object of the worship of the "holy mountain",and the worship ceremony of the "holy mountain" so as to fully interpret the worship essence of the “holy mountain”.The fifth chapter presents a description of the characteristics of the "holy mountain" worship of the Miao people of Lvdong Mountain,which,to the author,is mainly manifested in the three aspects: the group attribute,the regional attribute,and the holiness.The sixth chapter studies the contemporary value of the "holy mountain" worship by the Miao people of Lvdong Mountain.And to the author,it has a threefold manifestation,namely,bonding of inter-village relations and the forming of a harmonious society;the relationship between the human and the environment is reconstructed,and the harmony of human and land is achieved;the resources are turned to a good use,hence the formation of tourism resources.In general,this paper takes the field investigation of Lvdong Mountain in Baojing County as its vantage point;through thorough investigation,and combined with the previous research data,a more detailed observation is carried out on the holy mountain worship by the Miao people of Lvdong Mountain by the author.
