This dissertation analyzes both the historic roots and the current revival in Mongolian politics of a “Pure Blood Phenomena” based on anti-Chinese attitudes. It argues that politicians have been increasingly using this racial sentiment as a tool to gain people's support for particular issues, but more specifically to win people's vote.I first define and refer to certain political leaders' speeches and campaign strategies during the 2017 Mongolians presidential election to win favor in relation to Mongolia's racial context.By racial context,I mean the tactic of using the xenophobic attitudes often prevalent in society in political discourse to affect people's perception on certain topic and votes. In order to understand how this situation has come to be,I then examine the historical construction of both ethnic issues and Mongolian-Chinese relations in recent Mongolian history.Utilizing the theoretical approach of scholars such as Hans-Georg Gadamer,Fredrik Jameson,Louis Althusser and Josef Gregory Mahoney,I outline how this "Pure Blood Phenomena" was built over time in Mongolian political discourse, utilizing a hermeneutics approach as well as a critical perspective.I suggest that political leaders' attempt to construct a national identity based on nationalistic sentiment is explained as a strategy to unite people, but in reality, this racial discrimination is nothing to do with a unity of people.Considering the fact that the global discourse surrounding racism and nationalism has been reignited over the past decade,it is important to examine how the Mongolian situation factors into this movement.I argue in my conclusion that the use of “Pure Blood Phenomena” by Mongolian politicians has been successful in effecting political and economic decisions, and suggest it would negatively affect Mongolia's image in the international arena if people are still not aware of this negative impact. As I believe this ethnic discourse has severely affected the unity of the people,it is crucial to examine the historical root of the problem and understand why this has still prevailed, and what to do to alleviate its negative impacts.
