Probably stimulated by the determination that local government would remove the statue of Confederate General Robert E.Lee,Charlottesville riot between protesters or white supremacists and counter-protesters reflected severe racial disintegration in America. This thesis contends that Charlottesville Riot is a myth fabricated by white-supremacists,and it reflects the ideology of white supremacists. This thesis studies Charlottesville riot from the perspective of Mythologies, which promotes the understanding of the denotative meaning and connotative meaning of the riot rather than regards it as a political conflict in a nutshell.Guided mainly by Roland Barthes' Mythologies theories, the thesis firstly explores whether Charlottesville riot is a myth according to the definition of myth made by Roland Barthes, then the thesis deciphers the myth of Charlottesville riot from four possible positions of deciphering myth;lastly it reads the rhetorical forms of Charlottesville riot mythin cultural repertoire. For considerations that Charlottesville riot,a racial conflict, must function in special and specific social background, this thesis also retrospects the racial circumstances in American history from the colonial era and the slave era.Based on those researches, this thesis deciphers myth of Charlottesville riot and read that it is decorated with the rhetorical forms such as inoculation, the privation of history, tautology and identification.
