After the end of the First World War in 1919,a wave of national independence emerged in the Middle East region, providing an important opportunity for the Kurds to establish a country. However,at that time the Kurdish people who were dispersed in various places had not yet establish a unified national identity.Because of the opposition of other nations and the interference of great power, the Kurds missed this only opportunity.Kurdish nationalism gradually matured in the process of confrontation with other ethnic groups, and constantly challenged the government under the stimulation of unequal treatment. The successive Kurdish movements cause great problems to Turkey,Iraq,Iran and Syria, and impose ascendant threat to the stability of the situation in the Middle East for a long time. There have been continuous wars in the Middle East since 21 st century. But the turmoil has always provided opportunities for the Kurdish protests. And even to some extent,it can ease the relationship between Kurds and the main ethnic groups in their countries.I plan to analyze the causes and development of the Kurdish issue in this article. In the first part,I will analyze the origin and development of the Kurdish issue by introducing the rise of the Kurdish movement, the act of dividing boundaries artificially, and economic and cultural contradictions. The second part mainly analyzes the specific performance and achievements of the Kurds in 21 century.Due to the existence of four independent countries, the Kurds were artificially divided into four parts. However, the Kurds in each country also had partisanship disputes, which led to the dispersion of power. After entering the 21 st century, the order of the Middle East collapses, and many state powers are facing a serious crisis of governance. The control force of states becomes weak during the war, this kind of situation provides great convenience for the Kurdish nationalist movement. This section mainly analyzes the development of the Kurdish nationalist movements in the Iraq war and the Syrian civil war.The third part will focuses on the evolution of Kurdish policies in Iraq,Turkey,Iran and Syria. These four countries all formulated some policy of assimilation, which make the Kurdish national identity become stronger and build different state concept of Kurds in different countries. With the changes in the international situation, these countries have introduced new Kurdish policies to deal with new trend of the domestic Kurdish issue. The last part analyzes the main factors that hinder the settlement of the Kurdish problem, and then propose a new idea about solving the Kurdish Issue. Finally,it concludes that Kurds already missed the only opportunity to establish an independent nation state.Establishing a national state is not effective solution for Kurdish issue. It may be a good choice to establish a community of regional destiny.
