Sino-American relations are one of the most important bilateral relations in the world today. With the rapid development of its national strength,China has evolved into the “rising power” and the United States remains the “established power”,and the contradictions have become more prominent. How China and the United States can avoid falling into the “Thucydides trap” and prevent the re-emergence of historical tragedies become an important issue.During the Second World War,China and the United States formed a common alliance against the Fascist. This valuable history will probably provide empirical insights into the current development of Sino-American relations.During the war,the Sino-American alliance was formed after the outbreak of the Pacific War.The common interests and the active policy of the National Government to ally with the US prompted the two countries to become wartime allies.China was eager to use the power of the United States to defeat Japan and consolidate its domestic power to safeguard its own survival and security. The United States hoped to use China as a base to counterattack Japan and safeguard Chiang Kai-shek's rule,so that it could shape the post-war international order and seek international dominance after the war according to its own wishes. However, the strengths and strategic objectives of China and the United States were very different, and the international environment they face varied greatly. Therefore, the Sino-American alliance in wartime was a typical asymmetric alliance.China was mainly pursuing security, while the United States was longing for greater voice and control. The differences in the priorities of the two countries caused the two sides to argue about the “Europe Prior to Asia” strategy and the issue of Stilwell's command. The asymmetrical alliance led to differences and contradictions between the two sides, hindering the progress of the Japanese war and the early victory of the anti-fascist war. However, the common interests and concerns about each other ensured the stability and continuity of the alliance.
