An Analysis Of The Foreign Policy Of The Indonesian Government During The Period Of Joko Widodo

Joko Widodo announced his appointment as the seventh president of Indonesia on October 20,2014 and he has been in power for more than four years.During his first term,Jokowi and his team set up a new diplomatic strategic plan,and the Indonesian government's foreign policy has shown a new look.On the macro level,Jokowi adheres to the "free and active" diplomatic thought and continues the diplomatic ideal of the predecessor President Susilo's pursuit of Indonesia's "medium power" and regional power.At the same time,Jokowi has a new interpretation of Indonesia's main national interests,emphasizing the need to reshape Indonesia's "marine power" and propose a "Global Ocean Fulcrum" strategy aimed at promoting Indonesia with an open and cooperative diplomatic concept.The maritime industry strengthens Indonesia's ability to manage ocean affairs and seeks higher status and influence in the Indian Ocean and Pacific Region.In the specific diplomatic measures,the foreign policy of the Indonesian government under the rule of Jokowi is both pragmatic and flexible.Jokowi emphasized that diplomacy should serve the interests of the people,and foreign cooperation ensures that the Indonesian nationals will bring real benefits.With the changes in international,regional and domestic situations,the Jokowi Government has adjusted its key policy directions in a timely manner and leveraged its domestic advantages.With ASEAN,the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean as the main platforms,combined with the current hot issues,the Indonesia continues to strengthen its own role and contribution of international and regional affairs to improve the image of the country.However,the adjustment and advancement of the current Jokowi government's foreign policy still faces challenges from many levels,such as international,regional and domestic.2019 presidential election hasalso brought many domestic problems to the surface,and there are many constraints on the internal affairs and diplomacy of the Jokowi Government.Therefore,Jokowi Government should accelerate the benign interaction between the foreign policy objectives and the stability of the domestic political situation while accelerating the implementation of more substantive diplomatic achievements.
