As socialism with Chinese characteristics enters a new era,the main contradictions in our society have changed from "the contradiction between the ever-growing material and cu ltural needs of the people and the backward production " to "the contradiction between peo ple's ever-growing needs for a better life and unbalanced and inadequate development".The pursuit of a better life means that the main task of society has shifted from the simple "eco nomic center" to comprehensive and synergetic development of political-economic-spiritual-ecological civilizations such as material civilization, democracy and rule of law, fairness a nd justice, safety and comfort, and beautiful environment. The good life is not only one of t he specific connotations of people's livelihood ethics, but also the yearning and pursuit of p eople's livelihood ethics in the new era.In order to better interpret the ethical implications o f the good life and to elucidate its contemporary significance,it is necessary for us to go ba ck to Marx, the classical writer,to trace the discourse footprint of his classical texts about p eople's livelihood and its ethical thoughts. Therefore, this paper focuses on excavating Mar x's ethical thought of people's livelihood from Marx's classical texts,so we can draw nouris hment from it and guide our country to build a better life. The thesis is divided into four parts. The first part traces back to the theoretical sources of Marx's ethical thought of people's livelihood: the ethical thought of people's livelihood o f ancient Greek philosophers, the liberal ethical thought of people's livelihood of Enlighten ment thinkers in the 18 th century, the idealistic ethical thought of people's livelihood of Uto pian socialists in the 19 th century, and the ethical thought of people's livelihood of German Classical Philosophers. The second part reveals the exploring process of the ethical thought of people's livelihood contained in young Marx's early works. While fully absorbing and cri tically discarding the previous works,Marx's philosophical world view on people's livelihood has changed. On the whole, his ethical thought of people's livelihood has gone through t he evolution process from idealistic ethics of people's livelihood to rationalistic ethics of pe ople's livelihood,to humanistic ethics of people's livelihood, finally to historical materialisti c ethics of people's livelihood. The third part elaborates the basic idea of Marx's ethical tho ught of people's livelihood. From the perspective of the relationship between people and the mselves, between people and others, between people and society, and between people and t he government,Marx's ethical thought of people's livelihood is interpreted as four basic con cepts: human dignity, national happiness, fairness and justice, and co-construction and shari ng.In the fourth part, based on the basic concept of Marx's ethical thought of people's liveli hood, the construction of contemporary Chinese people's livelihood is examined to build a better life.
