"Modernization" is the only way for social transformation and development,and its level and degree are important symbols to measure the stage of social development.Especially,"human modernization" is the essence and core of macro-social modernization,and "gender" is an important dimension to measure social progress,which promotes the great changes of society through linking and interacting with other factors in society.During the period of the Republic of China,China was in the period of social transformation from traditional society to modern society.The social development in this period showed the most clear characteristics of modernization,especially the "modernization of human beings".During this period,women who had been confined to their families gradually entered the society,and began to explore the path of gender modernization of female groups,marked by engaging in social occupation.Among them,the group of female journalists engaged in newspaper and journalism has become the leader of the modernization of the female group because of its rich and active professional activities,social interaction and the exemplary role of communicating modern cultural ideas.Its social activities have clear and typical characteristics of modernization.This paper chooses the female journalists in the Republic of China as the object of study,examines its modernization characteristics in different fields such as the workplace,family and society,and reflects the modernization process of the female group in the media discourse,as well as the interaction between gender factors and the whole society in this period,with a view to providing some enlightenment for the related research on the macro-issues of gender and society.This paper found that the characteristics of gender modernization of female journalists in the period of the Republic of China can be summarized as "the promotion of professionalism","the spatial flow of the body",and "the modern turn of aesthetics and values",which are economic,politic and cultural level respectively.Through a deep description of the above three levels of media discourse,the paper founds that in the process of gender modernization of female journalists,their professional media discourse,media discourse of their bodies and their fields,as well as the value's modern turn discourse all showed a clear dual contradiction.Under the discourse representation of "constructing" gender modernization,there exists a “deconstruction metaphor” in gender modernization.In addition,this paper put forward some reflections on the connection between media,gender and society: gender constructs society while being constructed by society,and media plays an important role in reflecting,catalyzing and participating in the construction.As an important dimension of social progress,gender promotes the great change of society through the connection and interaction with other factors in society.Through exploring the characteristics of gender modernization and its historical process of female journalists in media historical materials at the time dimension,and investigating the reflection and construction of gender practice in media discourse at the spatial dimension,this paper provides vivid historical details and empirical materials for the view of "gender construct the society" in gender theory in the field of sociology,and the theory and rule of "media reflects reality and construct reality" in the field of communication have been verified in some empirical aspects,which is conducive to focusing the attention of academia on the modernization transformation of women groups and related issues,and providing some historical reference and practical guidance for the relevant issues of modern society.
