After the Donald Trump administration came to power,it declared the complete end of the Obama Administration's policy of ‘strategic patience' towards North Korea, and re-evaluated its policy towards North Korea, finally introduced the‘extreme pressure' policy towards North Korea. It aims to keep North Korea on the path of denuclearization through economic sanctions, military deterrence and diplomatic means, does not seek ‘regime change'.If North Korea changes its threatening behavior, the US will engage with North Korea.Due to the ‘extreme pressure' policy, the situation on the Korean Peninsula is further grim,US—DPRK relations continue to deteriorate, the risk of war is sharply increased,North Korea is under tremendous economic pressure, and the US and North Korea have started to try to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue through peaceful negotiations ‘extreme pressure' policy adjustment. The first part mainly elaborated the Donald Trump administration's ‘extreme pressure' policy and its influence.Since taking office, the Donald Trump has end the Obama Administration's ‘strategic patience' policy towards North Korea. The Donald Trump administration assessed and formulated its ‘extreme pressure' policy. This policy is aim to pressed North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons from the economic, political and military aspects respectively. The second part mainly elaborated the Donald Trump administration's North Korea policy adjustment. As the ‘extreme pressure' policy did not achieve the desired results, the U.S.-DPRK relations has been deteriorated, the process of denuclearization stalled, the Korean Peninsula is facing the risk of war.Against this background, the Donald Trump administration has readjusted its policy toward North Korea, turned to choose political and diplomatic means to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue, started direct negotiations and held two successful U.S.North Korean summit talks. The third part mainly analyzes the characteristics and prospects of the Donald Trump administration's policy towards North Korea. The Donald Trump administration's policy toward North Korea is uncertainty and heavily influenced by domestic politics, essentially highlighting the hegemony.Due to the huge differences between the two sides on the issue of denuclearization, the peninsula's situation hasthe possibility of stagnation or even ‘retrogression',but the two sides will continue to maintain the path of peace talks, and finally achieve the goal of denuclearization.Despite the complexity of the peninsula issue and the intertwined contradictions between various parties, the adjustment of the US policy towards the DPRK has opened up a new situation, the inter-Korean have been relaxed, the US-DPRK relations have also had a historic breakthrough. The interaction between the United States and North Korea highlights the differences between the two sides and the ultimate goal behind them.Although the goal of denuclearization cannot be achieved overnight,it has a positive role in improving the security situation in Northeast Asia.In order to maintain peace and development in Northeast Asia, there should be a permanent mechanism for the peaceful development of the peninsula, all parties should continue to reject the Cold War mentality, break away from the traditional geopolitical game, realizing denuclearization on the Peninsula and solving problems through dialogues and consultations.
