At all times and in all countries, gratitude has been regarded as an important theme in their promotion.Gratitude has important value and far-reaching influence on the good development of the whole society. However, there are always some people who run counter to the trend. For the good deeds of others, instead of being grateful, they blackmail. In recent years, there have been frequent incidents of blackmail in Chinese society. These vicious incidents have had a very bad impact on social ethos and social trust, which has seriously hindered the good development of society. Therefore, from the perspective of the social evolution,it is necessary to study the gratitude and blackmail behaviors of the recipients. This paper will use the computer simulation method to carry on the study.Firstly, based on the indirect reciprocity model including mutations, this paper simulates the behavior of helping others in the society using the agent-based modeling and simulation(ABMS)method, and then introduces the gratitude and blackmail behaviors of the recipients. Then, from the perspective of the social evolution, the two behaviors are studied.Afterwards, this paper improves the model by setting the reputation of all agents to a personalized evaluation, and continues to study the gratitude and blackmail behaviors of recipients from the perspective of social evolution. After that, the response to blackmail incidents is discussed in particular, and the effectiveness of the conclusions reached in this paper is tested through in-depth interviews. When only considering the gratitude behaviors of the recipients, the simulation results show that gratitude can not only make the society considering mutations evolve into a friendly society, but also make the society considering both mutations and privatization of reputation evolve into a friendly society. Moreover, the more grateful each person is,the more beneficial to the evolution of a friendly society. After further considering the blackmail behaviors of the recipients, the simulation results show that the occurrence of blackmail will make the society indifferent.Even if the probability of blackmail is 1‰,there will still be indifferent people in the final social evolutionary outcome. At this time, blindly emphasizing gratitude will not eliminate the effects of blackmail incidents, and the society will not be able to re-evolve into a friendly society.By compensating and appeasing the victims of the blackmail incidents in terms of money, spirit, etc.,to ensure that their strategies for helping others are not changed, that is,not becoming more cautious in subsequent decision-making for helping people is the key to the re-evolution of the society into a friendly one. Moreover,in addition to this key measure, the establishment of a reputation-sharing system in society is also a necessary measure to deal with blackmail, and it is also crucial for the society to evolve into a friendly society.
