| In recent years,with the relative decline of power of the US,the trend of multi-polarization in East Asia gradually emerged.Although the US still retains the status of the only superpower in East Asia,the power distance among great powers within the region is constantly close.East Asia deterrence strategy of the US is a product of a series of security policy adjustments and diplomatic practices made after comprehensive assessment on current security situation of East Asia and combination of its own global strategy,the fundamental purpose of which is to maintain the single leading role of the US in East Asia.In order to achieve this goal,on the one hand,the US strengthened the security cooperation with the allied countries in East Asia and controlled the overall security pattern of East Asia through relying on geographic advantages of Japan,South Korea,the Philippines,Thailand and Australia,increasing frontier military deployment and coordinating the operation of bilateral alliance system.On the other hand,by taking advantage of developing of quasi-alliance,participating in the multilateral security mechanism and applying “soft deterrence”,the US deepened the connection of security with the non-aligned countries,which played a supplementary role in deterrence strategy.Because the US worried that China can grow into the new leader of the region,it showed a policy orientation containing China in the process of establishment of the US security strategy towards China.However,the two countries have no intention to conduct a comprehensive confrontation.In the face of the East Asian deterrence strategy of the US,China should stick to the path of peaceful rise,show the image of a responsible big power through practical actions,eliminate the doubt of the US on the future policy trend of China through the participation and observance of international norms,strengthen the security cooperation with the US and neighboring countries based on continuous improvement on its own comprehensive national strength,attach importance to competition for international discourse rights,actively promote the regional multilateral security mechanism and play a greater role in security affairs of East Asia. |
