The rise of the regionalism has become one of the phenomena which many people fixed eyes on in contemporary international relationship. As a practice of coping with common challenges as well as sticking up for national interests by regional cooperation, the rise of regionalism will lead to multiple influences on the security structure of the whole world and the security situation of every country objectively.Compared with other regions, the trend of regional cooperation in East Asia is developing rapidly in view of its starting later owing to various causes. China, as an East Asia country, can not remain untouched with regard to its security when being in the face of the rapid development of the regionalism in East Asia. The regionalism in East Asia brings both opportunities and challenges when China maintains its own security. As far as opportunities are concerned, firstly, the rise of the regionalism in East Asia contributes to promoting the democratization of international relationship in East Asia; secondly, the establishment of regional cooperation mechanism in East Asia contributes to removing the new or old security menace which China confronts with; last but not the least, the security interaction among countries in East Asia contributes to clearing up the arguments, that is , China is a threat. As to challenges, they may fall into two main aspects : Firstly, the regional operating pattern of " saying with one voice "increases difficulties, which China maintains its own security interests; secondly , the policy of "constrained engagement", which adopted and advocated by regional multilateral organizations, will impact the security of China.Aiming at developing peacefully, in the wave of the rise of the regionalism in East Asia, "how to tend to benefit while avoid harm", has become quite significant to China. Consequently, China , may need to fulfill the following essential points at present: first, building up the New Security Concept; second, acknowledging and respecting the varieties of culture, regime and developmental pattern; third, sticking to the principle of "Open Regionalism" continuously; finally, reinforcing sub-regional cooperation and cultivating harmonious regional environment vigorously.
