Iran plays an important role in the Eurasian continent. Its unique geographical location and abundant oil resources have laid an important strategic position for this country.Since the eighteenth century, the reality that Iran's development was affected by other great powers had been fully manifested. Before World War II,Iran was under the control of the United Kingdom and Russia. After World War II,to the early cold war,Iran was restricted by the United States and the Soviet Union. In the late cold war, under the leadership of the United States,Iran fell into a solitary predicament, and the relations between Iran and other countries were not stable after the cold war.Iran had tried to maintain its complete independence, but it got into a state of internal and external autonomy that was more threatened. After the emergence of the Iranian nuclear issue, the situation in Iran became more difficult. In order to stop the implementation of Iran's nuclear program, the United States and other western countries carried out comprehensive sanctions on Iran and the development of Iran was difficult.Based on the theory of “intermediate zone”,this article will analyze the transformation of Iran's foreign policy and diplomatic situation from pre-World War II to post-Cold War so as to analyze the diplomatic predicament of Iran as an “intermediate zone”country.
