Political Resistance And Psychological Resentment

As an extreme phenomenon of terrorism violence,suicide terrorism threatens the security and stability of many states and regions,which has become a major problem to be solved urgently in international anti-terrorism operations.After the cold war,the Middle East has become the area where suicide terrorism occurs most frequently.Under similar geopolitical circumstances in the Middle East,states with similar political backgrounds should have similar frequency of suicide terrorism.In fact,there is a significant difference in the frequency of suicide terrorism among those states with political instability caused by military intervention and which with political instability caused by internal conflicts,statistics show that the former is significantly more frequent.Based on this puzzle,the research question raised in this paper is that why are states with military intervention in the Middle East more prone to suicide terrorism than states with civil wars? By reviewing the studies on military intervention,civil war and suicide terrorism,this thesis,from the perspective of political-emotional interaction,takes political resistance and psychological resentment as independent variables to analyze the reasons why extremist groups in states with military intervention and civil war choose suicide terrorist attacks differently.Suicide terrorism is usually a tactical option for the weak side to use against their opponents in asymmetric wars or conflicts.It is found that the logic of choosing suicide terrorist attacks is different between terrorist groups and insurgent groups in different situations.As a tactical tool,suicide terrorist attacks are usually more likely than other terrorist attacks to complete the task and cause more damage to the target,and the signal sent by suicide can help increase the credibility of future attacks.As a tool of revenge,the degree of cruelty of suicide terrorist attacks is more likely to release the resentment of the perpetrators and increase the degree of concealment and the probability of success of the attacks at the cost of self-sacrifice.The conclusion of this thesis is verified by comparing two typical cases of Iraq and Syria and tracing the policy choices of several extremist groups.The cause,which suicide attacks occur more easily in states with military intervention than that with civil war,is that the former involves the extremist groups facing greater political resistance or stronger psychological resentment,they choose the extreme tactics with more urgent demand.Suicide attack,as tactical tool or revenge tool,are more likely to be used,so suicide terrorism is more frequent.On the contrary,suicide terrorism will appear less or even disappear.
