Nepal is China's important neighbor at the Himalayas. In recent years, the country enjoys a gradually stable political situation.Under the leadership of the Communist Party of Nepal(CPN),China-Nepal relations have been increasingly improved. Both sides have been maintaining close exchanges in politics, economy, culture, education and military-the two countries' bilateral relationship entered a new era.Against the backdrop of globalization, mass media has become an important carrier of information and a tool for the public to keep up with the current dynamics of globalization. It is thus particularly important for China to establish a fair and objective image of itself in target countries, and to improve its ability of realizing influential external publicity. This research finds out that compared with the mainstream, western media, the discourse influence of China's media in Nepal is at a disadvantage. The subject of this research is The Rising Nepal in 2018,a Nepalese equivalent to China's People's Daily with long history and high credibility.Starting from the reporting concerning China in the newspaper, this research examines the construction and interpretation of the newspaper's image of China in different fields such as politics, economy, culture, education and society, aiming to find existing problems and to propose corresponding suggestions and solutions. In the first part, the background, purpose and significance of this research are explained in detail, and descriptive statistics related to the materials is presented. The second part does cases studies on China-related news reported by The Rising Nepal, using research methods including content analysis, qualitative analysis and fantasy theme analysis. The purpose of this part is to explore the newspaper's construction of China's image in various fields of China-Nepal exchanges,to understand the current communication of the "Belt and Road" initiative in this region, and to restore the authenticity and objectivity of the newspaper's reporting context to China in efforts to find out the existing problems and deficiencies of the media on both sides. The last part reflects on China's communication strategy to Nepal, based on the found problems and the current situation, offering some enlightening thoughts. It is hoped that this research will become a case supplementary to the study of China's external communication, enhance the exchanges between the two countries at both official and non-governmental levels, and help take initiative in China's Nepal-targeted foreign publicity and policy-making.
