A Study On The Security Cooperation Between Indonesia And Australia During The Joko Period

Indonesia and Australia are sea neighbours with a strip of water.The proximity of geographical locations makes the two countries highly secure in terms of security.Against the backdrop of increased competition between the major powers in the Indo-Pacific region and the gradual deterioration of the regional security environment,the space for cooperation between Indonesia and Australia is expanding.In addition,in recent years,traditional regional security issues and non-traditional security challenges have become complex and intertwined.It is in the fundamental interests of both countries to jointly address regional security threats.Security cooperation between the two countries is also based on their respective strategic considerations.On the Indonesian side,Joko hopes to support the implementation of Indonesia's national security strategy by carrying out security cooperation with Australia;while Australia hopes to cushion the impact of regional security challenges through the security cooperation between the two countries.During the Joko period,security cooperation between Indonesia and Australia took into account bilateral and multilateral frameworks,focusing on cooperation in non-traditional security areas such as anti-terrorism,combating human smuggling,and cyber security.During this period,the security cooperation between the two countries showed that multilateral cooperation was centered on the ASEAN security architecture;cooperation was focused on the maritime security field;the cooperation field was selective and led by areas with low sovereignty sensitivity;the degree of cooperation was low;Countries have asymmetric supply of cooperative relations.Generally speaking,the security cooperation between Indonesia and Australia has strengthened the ability of the two countries to cooperate,but it is difficult for the cooperation to develop in depth.In terms of regional security,regional security and stability have been maintained.Cooperation between the two countries has effectively combated non-traditional security threats and maintained a regional security environment.In terms of its impact on China's peripheral security,objectively,the security cooperation between the two countries does not pose a direct threat to China's peripheral security.However,the recent tough Indonesian attitude towards disputes over the South China Sea and the disruption of the South China Sea by Australia have caused some pressure on China's security cooperation.China needs to pay close attention to the cooperation trends of the two countries,do a good job of strategic research,and issue countermeasures.
