With the end of the Cold War,India and Australia have increasingly common interests in responding to traditional security threats and non-traditional security threats in the Indo-Pacific region, and they also have a common pursuit of strategic significance. In fact, the heaping-up of India-Australia security cooperation is not irrelevant to the rising of the concept of "Indo-Pacific",which has played a significant role in the establishment of strategic partnership between the two countries, thus attracting the attention of scholars at home and abroad. At present, the security cooperation between the two countries is dominated by bilateral interaction.Security cooperation at the multilateral level is in its infancy, and a normalized cooperation mechanism has been formed in the defense and non-traditional security fields. In view of this, the process from normalization to rapid warming of the India-Australia security cooperation relationship is also a process from the negative perception to the positive perception of the both, and this process can only be achieved through the relationship interaction.Based on the criticism of Western traditional international relations cooperation theory,Qin Yaqing's relational identity theory is introduced in this paper, and analyzes the motivations for India-Australia security cooperation according to the causal mechanism of "relation determines identity, identity defines interests".As a result,it can be found that both India and Australia have constructed each other's identity in the relationship practice and begun to harbour common security interests. The evolution pf security cooperation between India and Australia can be divided into three different stages. The two countries are now positioning each other as important security partners. This paper shows the characteristics of non-traditional security cooperation, asymmetric security interaction and limited cooperation. In the relationship practice, the two countries have constructed multiple identities of "self" and"other",and identity positioning has shaped the security interests of the both at the regional and global levels. However, since Modi came to power, the content of India-Australia security cooperation has tended to materialize, but the cooperation process was relatively slow on the whole, mainly due to the limited traction of the "Indo-Pacific" strategy on India-Australia security cooperation. At the same time, the security cooperation is constrained by factors such as differences in strategic culture, differences in goals, and low strategic positioning between the two sides,Not yet mature. In the long run,the strengthening of India-Australia security cooperation will indirectly promote the cooperation among the " Quad”.In the future, the two countries will gradually cooperate in the multilateral security framework and focus on the maritime security field. However, the two countries themselves have paid less attention to each other' s strategy as well as the scale and level of their cooperation are very limited,Thus, although their security cooperation will continue to heat up,the process is slow.Based on this,India-Australia security cooperation does not pose a direct threat to China' s peripheral security and maritime security, but it will have a certain negative impact on the situation of the South China Sea and regional security governance. Moreover, with the introduction of the US-Indo-Pacific strategy, the "Quad"has been continuously substantive and institutionalized, and the deepening of security cooperation between India and Australia has had a synergistic effect.China should pay close attention to its development in order to cope with potential risks and uncertainties, and at the same time,China should carry out international security cooperation with a spirit of seeing its success and win-win cooperation.
