Australia is a capitalist middle power which has a vast territory surrounded by sea in the Asia-Pacific region. Before World War II Australia was a part of the British Empire , Britain was the protection of Australia .Pacific War was an important turning point in the history of Australia, The war changed Australia's foreign policy direction, After the war ended, Australia changed from dependence on the United Kingdom to follow the United States in the diplomatic defense .It's the most important issue to maintain the safety and stability of the surrounding region for Australia policy makers. Indonesia is Australia's northern neighbor, Which is a big country in Southeast Asia for its rich in natural resources and a large population . Indonesia has great strategic value to Australia. Postwar Australia started to attach great importance to develop contacts with Indonesia. In Australia's security strategy, Indonesia was Southeast Asia's most important countries during this period. As diplomacy is highly utilitarian politics, The principle of national interests is the starting point in foreign policy decision-making, Political decision-makers formulate its foreign policy which aimed mainly to seek for the best interests of their country in international exchanges, At the same time it is also the fundamental basis and value orientation that a country adjustments its foreign policy. Australia's Indonesia policy evolved as the political situation and the needs of national interests changed. Australia adopted a policy of good-neighborly friendship to Indonesia during the Labor government in power .As differences in political concepts of the two countries and the impact of international environment In the Sukarno era, Australia's Indonesia policy began to evolve after the Freedom - Village-party coalition government came to power, It changed from a policy of friendship to suppress, The situation continued until Indonesia 9.30 coup occurred in 1965 and the coming to power of Suharto.Apart from introduction and the end, This paper mainly carried out on research through four chapters. Chapter II is about Australia's Indonesian policy changed. Suharto's Government Pursue pro-Western foreign policy and focus on domestic economic construction, These gradually reduced Australia's worries to Indonesia, Then the implementation of pacification and cooperation policy to Indonesia In line with Australia's national interests, Australia began to adjust its policy direction towards Indonesia. Chapter IV is focus on interpretation of Australia's policy to Indonesia, divided into two parts of policy objectives and factors about affecting policy, In the policy objectives, Focus on the changing of post-war international situation and the increasing of Australia own strength, we can conclude that the supreme security interests and expanding it's influence in surrounding areas are the goals of Australian policy makers. The main factors that influenced post-war Australia's Indonesia policy-making were: America, Australia's ruling parties and f the differences in the ethnic values between Australia and Indonesia .in which the impact of America is an important reason, As a ally of the United States, Australia followed the United States closely on the postwar diplomatic and military, Indonesia was an important component of America's strategy in Southeast Asia during the Cold War, Australia's Indonesia policy formulated around with U.S. strategic arrangements during this period. Australia's post-war policy-making and the evolution process in Indonesia reflected the needs of Australian regional strategic interests, since the Second World War with its own strong national strength ,Australia to Indonesia's policies reflected it attempt to raise influence in the surrounding areas and seek Maximum national interests through its middle power status .
