As a famous French political thinker and sociologist in the 19 th century,Tocqueville is famous for his unique and systematic interpretation of democracy.Standing in the dual perspective of historical development and social reality, with his keen political sense and rich life experience,he not only successfully predicted that democracy would become a popular trend of social development, but also revealed the potential social problems of modern institutionalized democracy. In his opinion, although the values of equality and freedom contained in democracy are of great historical progressive nature, they also tend to give rise to individualism and materialism in democratic society, and cause people's indifference to public life and public affairs. This indifference shows that the lack of public spirit is caused by individual's concern for self-interest and excessive emphasis on private living space.Tocqueville regards public spirit as an antidote to the disease of democratic society and affirms its important value in the construction of democratic society. In this paper,by sorting out Tocqueville's important exposition of public spirit and combining with the historical background of his time, the author focuses on the analysis of the basic connotation of public spirit, the reasons for the lack of public spirit and the specific measures to build public spirit. On this basis, try to make a more objective evaluation of Todd's public spirit, and explore its contemporary value with its public spirit as a reference. The paper is divided into the following six parts:The first part is the introduction. This paper describes the reasons for the topic, the status quo of the research, the key and difficult points of the research and the research methods. The second part elaborates the historical background and theoretical origin of Tocqueville's public spirit.Starting from the historical dimension,on the one hand,it explores the historical factors of the differences in democratic political construction between France and the United States;on the other hand,it explores the ideological origin of Tocqueville's public spirit. In the third part, the main content of Tocqueville's public spirit is combed and discussed.First of all,the basic connotation of public spirit is elaborated;secondly, thepractical reasons for the lack of public spirit are elaborated, that is,the negative effects of "individualism","materialism" and "moderate autocracy" on democratic society are analyzed and discussed;thirdly, the specific path and measures for Tocqueville to build public spirit are analyzed and explored This paper discusses the functions and functions of these measures in the process of building public spirit. The fourth part is the dialectical analysis and evaluation of his public spirit.First of all,it discusses the influence of his thought on French social change and democratic political construction, and on this basis,it analyzes the influence of his thought on contemporary political thoughts;secondly,it analyzes and discusses the internal defects and inherent contradictions of his thought in combination with the social background of his era.The fifth part discusses and analyzes the contemporary value of Tocqueville's public spirit.Abstract the content of Tocqueville's public spirit thought which has the contemporary reference value, combine with our country's concrete national conditions, try to put forward some referential suggestions. The sixth part is the conclusion.Summarize the conclusion of this paper.
