Since 1974,the third wave of democratization has emerged in southern Europe,South America,East Asia,Southeast Asia, the Soviet Union,Eastern Europe, the West Asia and North Africa. It has spread to many countries and regions around the world.South Korea is a representative East Asian country in the third wave. The success of South Korea's political transformation is due to the impact of its political, economic and social transformations. The political transformation also affects the changes of various factors, which means the political transformation interacts with these factors. Finally, democracy was realized. The article begins with a brief overview of the theory of political transition. The politics of South Korea has undergone several transformational processes which can be subdivided into different stages. The first stage was from the beginning of Yi Seung-man's personal dictatorship to Park Chung-hee's military government period. The second stage is the Chun Doo-hwan military government before final realization of democratization. In accordance with the historical process, this paper divides political transformation of South Korea into three cycles, which are elaborated in detail. In this way, readers can understand the whole process of South Korea political development and grasp the political system changes, economic development, social structure differentiation and special events in various periods. The social economy, culture, political parties and other major factors contribute to promote South Korea's political transformation.Transformation has its own characteristics: autocratic dictatorship is strong. After the rapid development of modernization, economic development led to the differentiation of social structure, social contradictions resulted in radical democratic struggles.During the same period, emerging classes gradually grew up.Social interest groups interacted with the government, and thus, generating waves of momentum, progressively promoted the political democratization of Korea. It is clear that both important similarities and significant differences exist between the political transformation of South Korea and that of China,Taiwan, the Philippines and Singapore.Despite the impact of the United States,Japan and other countries,South Korea embarked on a political development path with its own characteristics.South Korea's political transformation is more radical and had various ups and downs. The deepening of modernization in the past forty years, together with the contradictions of economic and social conflicts and the constant adjustment of order finally contributed to the democratization of South Korea. The process of democratic transformation in South Korea is difficult and tortuous, not overnight.South Korea established a relatively stable democratic political system and operating system after the political transformation. It is certain that the democratic political system also needs to be continuously refined and consolidated over a longer period of development.
