The Shen Bao had been published for 78 years since 1872,totally 25599 issues. It is recognized as the largest newspaper in modern times. It strove to be "impartial" and made outstanding contributions to the field of early ideological communication in modern China. The early spread of Marxism in China, and the gradual process of Sinicization, was a very important link in the history of Marxism, also the initial collision between the combination of Marxism and Chinese reality. In this paper, the main research object is the Shen Bao in the decade from the eve of the October Revolution in 1917 to the failure of the first cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party in 1927,in which we explore the spread of Marxism. This paper combs the evolution process of Marxism from the "literacy" type communication to the mass communication. This paper lists and compares the attitudes and views of different scholars towards Marxism at that time, explores the reasons why Marxism was widely accepted by early intellectuals, and strives to objectively state the debate between Marxist and non-Marxist.It also summarizes and analyzes the root reason why Marxism can be popularized quickly after the initial short-term communication dilemma, and then become a kind of social belief. Finally,it concludes the significance and function of the Shen Bao for the early spread of Marxism in China.
