The confrontation between the United States and the Soviet incurred a fierce anti-American propaganda in the Soviet union After World War II,so the Soviet authorities made use of various media to create and publicize the “enemy image of the United States”.This paper tries to take the US-Soviet relations after World War II as the background to discuss on the shaping of the image of the enemy of the United States,the reasons for the shaping of the image of the enemy and the effectiveness of propagating the enemy in the internal anti-American propaganda the Soviet government carried out from 1946 to 1953.After World War II,the wartime alliance between the United States and the Soviet Union broke down and turned from friend to enemy.With the intensification of the conflict between the United States and the Soviet after the War,the United States has replaced Germany to become the number on enemy of the Soviet in the internal evaluation of the Soviet.Under the leadership of the Agitprop,the Soviet conducted a continuous top-down anti-American propaganda to shape the image of the United States and instilled the image of the United States they constructed through newspapers,magazines,movies,literary works and other media into the consciousness of the public as a way to cultivate public's feeling of hatred against the United States,strengthen patriotic feelings and strengthen ideological control and mobilize for the Cold War to fight back against the anti-Soviet propaganda launched by the United States,so as to the achieve the goal of realizing victory without battle.In the Soviet propaganda,the American image was divided into the “evil American” image and the“good American” image.The image of the enemy discussed in this article focuses on the evil United States.Among them,the evil American categorized into "Nazi successor,enslaver of European and third world,ogre in the Korean War,nuclear bully and prominent social problems",while the kind Americans are oppressed by evil Americans and they hold friendly feelings towards the Soviet.The Soviet propaganda tried to highlight the bad and evil of the evil American image by shaping the two kinds of American images,so as to increase the credibility of the evil American image.The shaping of the enemy image of the United States is featured extreme kernel stability of the enemy image,falsity in the shaping of the enemy image,emphasize the evil American image in “two America” and the coercion in the propaganda process.By way of successive propaganda about the enemy image of America and due to thelimited access of the Soviet public to outside information at the time,the antiAmerican propaganda campaign launched by soviet union at the beginning of the Cold War has successfully instilled the enemy image of the United States into the public consciousness,making the image of the United States as a "war-monger and prominent social problems” deeply rooted in the Soviet people's consciousness.AntiAmerican propaganda at the end of Stalin's reign also set the tone for image of the United States in post-cold war propaganda,the United States was a capitalist country that seeks to dominate the world through external expansion and was controlled by a few elites and with prominent social problems.
