Study Of Donald Trump's Twiplomacy

Along with the wide use of social media in political life,politicians and foreign institutions around the world use them to diffuse policies and ideas frequently.Donald Trump,President of United States,is deft at employing twitter to publish foreign policies and criticize political topics.Therefore,this phenomenon has been titled “twiplomacy”.To this end,this research studies North Korean nuclear crisis as a study case which is based on Trump's germane tweets in order to characterize his twiplomacy in the process of dealing with North Korean nuclear crisis.This research divides Trump's tweets into four phases as the budding phase,the provoking phase,the blowout phase,and finally summit meeting based on the pertinent foreign context.This research combines content analysis and discourse analysis so as to use diplomatic practice,agenda distribution,discourse frequency,and linguistic label to thoroughly analyze Trump's tweets from top to bottom in order to explore what characteristics Trump's twiplomacy presented under the dynamic foreign context.The result demonstrates that Trump's twiplomacy is most likely inclined to realism and pragmatism.Some of the ideas are similar with Republican's diplomatic traditions.Trump prefers bilateral diplomacy.And,potent romanticism under its discursive construction and narrative style.Finally,the communication structure of its twiplomacy is from top to bottom,which is the linear transmission,and Trump's twiplomacy lacks interaction.
