An Analysis On Chinese-American Cyber Competition

This paper analyses the phenomenon of Cybersecurity/Cyberthreats and its apparent relation to the development of cyber capabilities and its diplomatic implications.Cybersecurity/Cyberthreats are rising trends in the international security agenda due to its influence on the current political times.This is a fact since cyber threats are now regarded as a new menace which is able to challenge the position of Status Quo powers by playing a mayor role in altering the current power balance,impacting negatively on diplomatic relations,leading to serious confrontation.The fact that cyber threats can quickly and consistently interfere in the political and economic sphere makes cybersecurity/cyber threats a paramount subject to super power countries.More important is to know whether the escalation in the development of cyber capabilities could actually trigger a kinetic confrontation(armed conflict)between The People?s Republic of China and the United States of America.Military systems,important economic transactions,high-tech development and everyday communication highly depend on electronic devices and the Internet.The cyberspace is a multilayered realm in constant expansion.Cyber threats spread in that realm under the form of code lines that activate virus,worms and a whole set of hacking tools used for criminal activities and in some cases,they are used to carry out cyber attacks on civil or government entities.For that reason,cyberspace is the new warfare arena where China and the United States face a current confrontation.In this paper I start from the premise that who controls this domain will exercise its power over the enemy.At the moment,both China and The United States are contesting for the control over the cyberspace.The American Intelligence wants to transfer its military experience and power to the cyber realm,the new battle field,before China,the new economic giant,takes over it.The control of the cyberspace is of high priority for the leading contestants: no wonder,both superpowers have invested billions on the development of cyber defense measures as well as in developing hardware and software.The next war arena is the cyberspace and taking control of it is of paramount importance.
