Report For Translation Of Academic Essays On General Provisions Of Civil Law Of People’s Republic Of China And Codification Of Chinese Civil Law

This report with a focus on the legal terms in civil law is produced based on the translation of the academic works of Liang Huixing in recent years on General Provisions of Civil Law of People’s Republic of China and codification of Chinese civil law.The terms in Chinese civil law system can be divided into two categories,the first is the concepts borrowed from French Civil Code and German Civil Code as a result of legal transplantation;the second is the system-bound terms with distinctive Chinese characteristics.The author takes a retrospective look at these legal terms inherited from French Civil Code and German Civil Code,and compared the translation of these terms with the Code Civil de Québec published in English version,and those translation offered by the well-known online legal research libraries.This report aims to provide some opinions on the equivalent translation of legal terms in The General Provisions of Civil Law of People’s Republic of China and to an extent contribute to the legal lexicography of law dictionaries in the future.
