China Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC)is a current mega project for regional connectivity,through which Pakistan's Gadawar port will be connected to the China's Xinjiang via a set-up of highways,railways and pipelines.Not only China and Pakistan will be get benefit from the project but it have positive impact for the whole region such as Iran,Afghanistan,India and Central Asian republic.It's one of the project of China under “Belt and Road Initiative”(BRI),announced by Chinese Premier Li Keqiangin March 2013 and was formally launched in April 20,2015 by Chinese President Xi Jin Ping and the then Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif with a huge cost of almost $46 billion investment in infrastructure development and energy sector.Now the total value of the project has been increased to $62 billion as of 2017.It is considered is a game changer for Pakistan economy.On another side,a project of such scale surely faces equal challenges both internal and external but the thesis has focus on some domestic factors which are affecting the construction of CPEC.For decades Pakistan foreign policy has been influenced by such domestic factors and skirmishers which are the ultimate result of weak state institutions and poor administration.In addition cross-cultural relationship between nation-states is also trying to destabilize the country politically as well as economically.Most of the studies about CPEC have been focusing in the internal and external challenges but this study will analyze that how the newly signed CPEC will affect the local economy in terms of trade and development.Secondly,these domestic factors influence the foreign policy as well.Although foreign policy of Pakistan towards China is very friendly and neighborly,however,the internal factors play a key role in making decisions.The study will thoroughly investigate these domestic factors and their relationship with affecting the foreign policy making with regard to CPEC.Author will explore the domestic factors which are influencing CPEC and will explore and analyze the role of these domestic factors influencing foreign policy of Pakistan towards CPEC.This study will be based on qualitative in nature.For the thesis secondary data will be taken,such as research papers,authorized statements,and newspaper both local and international,official websites,books and reports from neighoubring countries.Also,a considerable discussion is based on the opinions and analyses of the major and most important scholars and researchers related to the field of strategic studies.This study utilizes the theory of neoclassical realism to arrange and organize literature for the formulation of concrete evidence based arguments to justify the phenomena of foreign policy of Pakistan towards CPEC.Domestic politics and pressure groups are the key components of neoclassical realism.The core assumptions of neoclassical realism is based on domestic politics,the perception of personalities,pressure groups and interest groups which are affecting Foreign policy of the country,particularly CPEC.This study will briefly identify and analyze those pressure groups and their role in affecting the foreign policy of Pakistan towards CPEC.The pressure groups that are currently pressurizing government to shape CPEC policies are being discussed in the study with the critical analysis of neoclassical realism to conclude a solid and factual based result.The thesis has total five chapters.The opening chapter explain a short background of bilateral relations of Pak-China and then domestic factors affecting foreign policy of Pakistan towards China especially CPEC.This chapter also discuss that what are the challenges and domestic factors in literature discussed by different authors.Literature review,methodology,objectives and significance of the research will be the parts of the first chapter.The second chapter has three sections.The first section is about the basic situation and policies of both the countries towards CPEC.This chapter will further investigate in the second section the progress of construction of CPEC projects from2013-2019 and the last section of the chapter is about a short overviews of the problems in the construction process of CPEC which will be explain in details in coming chapters.The third chapter is about the analysis of foreign policy of Pakistan in general and particular towards China/CPEC.Further it will explain and analyze that how these domestic factors could affect the specific projects or decisions in the construction of CPEC.The fourth chapter will explain some socio-economic factors and insurgency in the country.How these factors could change Pakistan's foreign policy and how they are trying to damage the mega project by different means?The fifth chapter which is the last chapter of the thesis will conclude and give the personal opinion and recommendations about the study.
