The paper explores the inner trajectory of the development of Marxist thought by analyzing Marx's transition from romanticism to realism.Marx with great literary attainments was impacted by his family from an early age.Especially when he studied in Bonn and Berlin, his thought went through a period of romanticism.During such period,he wrote many poems about love and ideals.Although Marx himself did not speak highly of these poems and Franz Mehring also commented that these poems exuded “mediocre romanticism”,yet still this is a precious imprint of young Marxist thoughts.Marx was faced with the contradictions between what there should have been and what there has been.Later,he began to focus on the real world and turned to realism.During the“Rheinland” period,Marx began to move towards the real society. At this stage,he attached importance to the issue of material interests and attacked romanticism. From then on,Marxist thought gradually shifted to realism. There is modern logic behind Marx's shift from romanticism to realism for modern problems of the bourgeois era became increasingly prominent, and Marx tried to seek solutions from the perspective of actual production and history. The transformation of Marx carries the connotation of the negation of negation, and communism confirms the dialectical philosophy. It is not only the transcendence of romanticism, but also the eternal development of realism.
