The interest in learning mathematics,which is a non-intellectual factor,is a positive mental disposition of students.It helps them to understand and explore mathematical knowledge and skills,and through plenty of daily practice,it can be built and transferred by individuals to fuel their' mathematics study.Because of the difference in subject between mathematics,literature and history,and because of the special ethnic geography environment,the students there lack the initiative and enthusiasm to learn mathematics and therefore lose the interest in learning it,resulting in low learning efficiency and poor performance in scores.Based on the situation mentioned above and the topic “the interest in learning mathematics of senior high school students in ethnic minority area”,this study mainly analyzed the status quo of senior high school students' interest in learning mathematics in ethnic minority area and the reasons behind this.At the end of the study,proper suggestions were put forward to facilitate these students to improve their learning interest in mathematics and enhance their math skills.Through referring to and summarizing the relevant literature review,the author learned the basic knowledge about the factors affecting students' learning interest and then made improvement over the questionnaire and outline of the interview.The subjects of the study were the students and teachers of Liulin senior high school in Zhuoni,Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Region.552 students answered the questionnaire and the teachers in the school were interviewed face to face.The author's own experience and practice in teaching mathematics were also took into consideration.All of the data were later analyzed by SPSS l9.0(Statistical Package for Social Science).The conclusion is as follows:(1)In ethnic minority area senior high school students lack the interest in learning mathematics.Nearly 30% of the students don't have so much interest in learning it and even 11% are not interested in it at all.(2)There is a significant relevance between students' interest in mathematics and their grade,gender,nationality and academic achievement.(3)The factors of the students themselves,of their teachers,of their background,of their language and culture all contribute to the low learning interest of senior high school students in ethnic minority area.On the basis of the investigation on the status quo of the students' interest in mathematics and the factors causing it,the author put forward several suggestions to improve students' learning interest,and they are concluded as follows:(1)The teachers should intensify guidance to help the students learn mathematics more effectively.(2)The teachers must enhance their own professional quality and appeal so as to attract students' attention while they are learning maths.(3)The teachers need to make improvement in their teaching methods to arouse students' learning desire.(4)The school should contribute to the construction of school cultural environment and create a good atmosphere for students to learn maths through a variety of ways.
