| Women’s economic status is closely related to the traditional culture.First, this paper based on the macro data combined with individual micro data to test the hypothesis that the traditional plough influence the contemporary Chinese women’s economic status.Futher more, the paper discusses the effect of the people’s livelihood financial expenditure and the production financial expenditure on the negative effect of the plowing cultivation tradition on the women’s economic statusWe find that, consistent with existing hypotheses, the descendants of societies that traditionally practiced plough agriculture, today have higher sex ratio, lower average number of years of education for women, lower rates of female participation,as well as a greater prevalence of attitudes favoring gender inequality.Further empirical found that the fiscal expenditure of the people can effectively reduce the negative influence of the ploughing tradition on the economic status of women, while the productive fiscal expenditure can not. |
