Following the steady decline of birthrate and the gradual increase of average life expectancy in China,Chinese society has already entering an aging stage with the trend of deepening, which leads to the realistic problems such as the heavier burden on pension and endowment insurance running behind expenses. To alleviate the above-mentioned burdens,China has decided to delay retirement slowly. There are also a series of reform aiming at aging problem abroad, including raising the legal age of early retirement and reducing wage tax.Combining the deferred retirement policy that China is going to carry out now,and focusing on the influence factors and measurements on retirement age, this paper sorts out main recent research literatures on appropriate retirement age at home and abroad to provide inspiration and reference for China's retirement policy reform. The analysis consists of two parts.First we consider the influence factors and measurements on retirement. There are two main channels to affect optimal retirement age:pension and health.Besides, education and skills can also affect it.Four ways can be used to calculate optimal retirement age. They are life-cycle model, option value model, the wealth transition model and health condition model. The first three models are based on the maximum utility or value, while the last one is based on the health condition. As there are few researchers studying the optimal retirement age based purely on health indicators in our country, this paper choose this way to calculate the optimal retirement age, with the data from CHARLS and National Bureau of Statistics of China.Final conclusions:for men,5 years longer than the current age is appropriate;for women,8 to 10 years longer is reasonable. At last,At last,we put forward some policy suggestions to the coming regulation of a higher retirement age.
