Objective: To test the effect of different types of ankle orthosis on dynamic balance ability and gait in patients with functional ankle instability.In order to determine the impact on the dynamic posture stability of functional ankle instability.Methods: In this study,15 patients with list of functional ankle instability(all male subjects and the affected side is right side)was measured.The dynamic balance ability and gait test before and after wearing different orthosis were tested.The effects of functional ankle instability and different types of ankle orthosis on dynamic posture stability were determined by double factor repeated measurement variance analysis.Results:(1)Orthosis intervention was statistically significant in both front and rear directions of Y balance test(P<0.05).There is a statistical difference in the posterior internal direction of the healthy side in the functional ankle instability(P<0.05).There is a protective gear and side interaction in front and rear two directions(P<0.01).The distance to reach of elastic orthosis worn by affected limb is higher than that of no orthopedic and Semi-rigid orthosis state(P<0.05).The distance to reach of healthy lateral limb that wearing semi-rigid orthosis is less than that without orthosis(P<0.05).(2)Under the condition of walking,plantar pressure of heel has significant difference with the intervention of orthosis(P<0.01).Orthosis intervention has no effect on stride characteristics and phase characteristics.There is significant difference in the contact time,the maximum value and the time maximum value of the intervention of orthosis in seven-foot area(P<0.01).(3)Under the condition of running,the plantar pressure of the plantar and heel is significantly different with the intervention of orthosis(P<0.01).There is a significant difference in the foot deflection of the stride characteristics of orthosis intervention(P<0.01).However,there was no effect on the phase characteristics.And there was significant difference in the contact time,the maximum value and the time maximum value of the orthosis intervention in seven-foot area(P<0.01).Conclusions:(1)The wearing of semi-rigid orthosis has no effect on the dynamic balance of the lateral limb of the patients with functional ankle instability.But for the healthy limb,it will lead to a decrease the dynamic balance ability.Wearing an elastic orthosis can enhance the dynamic balance ability of the lateral limb of the functional ankle instability,but has adverse effects on the dynamic balance of the healthy limb.(2)The wearing of orthosis can enhance the stability of the functional ankle instability in walking and running.But has no effect on the stride and phase characteristics of gait.(3)Compared with semi-rigid orthosis,the elastic orthosis is more advantageous to the dynamic posture stability of the functional ankle instability.
