Objective: The purpose of this study is to understand the effect of resistance training on improving muscle strength,morphology and walking ability in the elderly.And to explore the effect of resistance based physical exercise on the quality of life in the elderly.Research methods: Document method,expert interview method,experiment method,questionnaire method and mathematical statistics method are used in this paper.Subjects: 40 elderly people,aged 60-85,and all the subjects had no serious disease that influence motor ability and normal metabolic disease.muscle strength,walking ability and quality of life of the experimental group and the control group were tested,at the beginning and end of the experiment,respectively,and the data were statistically analyzed.Intervention program: the experimental group(N=20)carried out 60 min elastic band resistance training every Monday,Wednesday and Friday morning.A total of 9movements were practiced,each of the exercise was repeated 2-3 groups and every group 8-12 times was repeated;resistance intensity was controlled by changing the elastic band lbs(green 15 pounds,yellow 18 pounds,and red 22 pounds).A intensity adjustment was made every 4 weeks according to the adaptability of the subjects to the original strength,the control group(N=20)remained the original way of life.TheResults: The muscle strength index and grip strength of the experimental group were significantly improved(P<0.05),and the intervention effect improvement compared with the control group was also statistically significant(P<0.05).The walking ability index of the experimental group: 10 m walking,time up and go(TUG),and 3m zigzag test(P<0.05)were all significantly improvement and the improvement were significantly higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).Health related quality of life: the systolic blood pressure(SBP)and diastolic blood pressure(DBP)of the experimental group were improved,but there was no statistical significance(P>0.05).The score of SF-36 scale showed that: 12 weeks elastic band resistance training can improve the physical health and mental health of the elderly,but only the mental health has been significantly improved of the elderly(P<0.05).The score of general health item scores and vitality items in the second level index of the SF-36 scale were significantly improved(P<0.05).Conclusion: 12 weeks,elastic band resistance training can significantly improve the muscle strength in the elderly,while the improvement of the lower limb muscle strength can also significantly improves the walking ability in the elderly.Significant improvement in muscle strength and walking ability of the elderly can improve the general health status and vitality in the elderly,and to a certain extent improve the quality of life in the elderly.
