Study On The Individual Psychological Characteristic Of Chinese Professional Go Players

Go(Weiqi)is treasure of traditional Chinese culture which has the history of more than two thousand years and quite rich connotation in thoughts and culture.In contemporary society,Go becomes a popular athletic sport in East Asia,and Chinese Go players have achieved certain achievements in world Go competitions.However,there always lacks systematic research in how to cultivate and effectively train Go reserve forces as well as psychological situation and personality of active Go players.Analysis on psychological features such as personalities of active Go players will help to develop researches in Go players' selection and cultivation,which will provide theoretical references for Chinese Go players' better achievements in world Go competitions.This research takes a close look into fifty-three Chinese professional Go players' personality and psychological features through Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices(SPM)and Cattell Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire(16PF).By using SPSS20.0 to mathematically make statistical analysis on the data,conclusions can be drawn out like the following:1.The intelligence level of Chinese professional Go players ranks averagely at 70%above the age norm,higher than ordinary people but quite limited,with significant internal dispersion degree.This indicates that professional Go players are supposed to have higher intelligence than ordinary people.However,intelligence level is not decisive for Go players' personal achievements;analysis on intelligence and secondary personalities shows that Go players with high intelligence level may be more innovative,creative and with better adaption to new environment.2.Chinese professional Go plays have medium scores in 16 PF with no extremely high or low scores,which are quite similar to national adult norm,though part of the personalities has quite significant differences.Main positive personalities of professional Go players include strong artistic temperament,self-reliance and intelligence.Meanwhile,they possess negative personalities such as formality,poor self-control and lack of responsibility.All these personalities are quite different with thatof other athletes.3.Gender is not an influencing factor for Go players' personality difference.In addition,Go players with higher levels usually are more relaxed,calm,confident,resilient and open-minded.This indicates that psychological quality plays quite important role in competition.4.The scores of secondary personalities of Chinese professional Go players are close to the average of ordinary people.Players of higher level are more calm and psychologically healthier,which implies that positive attitude in daily life is necessary for players' better achievements.
