The TPRS(Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling)teaching method is based on TPR(Total Physical Response),a kind of behavioral situational teaching method that incorporates story teaching, which was originally defined as TPR Storytelling, and was officially renamed in 2004.The pedagogy originated in the United States. Its founder,Blaine Ray,is a Spanish teacher at a high school in California. After being inspired by Stephen Krashen's theory of second language acquisition,he combined TPR teaching with story teaching, emphasizing comprehensible input.Achieving vocabulary input and proficiency through interactive teaching and hearing repetition. This teaching method was originally applied to teaching Spanish and was later adopted by other foreign languages such as French and German. In recent years, the TPRS teaching method has gradually begun to be adopted by Chinese teachers. This paper is divided into five parts, the first part is the introduction, mainly including the reasons and significance of this topic, analysis of domestic and foreign research status, and the theoretical source and content of TPRS teaching method, including the advantages and disadvantages of this method. The second part compares and analyzes the differences between the TPRS teaching method and the other two general teaching methods in different districts in Detroit, thus further exploring the aspects which could be improved of the TPRS teaching method. The third part is based on Chinese classes, teaching materials and teaching methods collected by the author in the process of being a graduate assistant in Detroit,USA.According to the local Chinese teaching situation, the feasibility of using TPRS in local promotion was analyzed. The fourth part is based on the survey of third part, combining a number of classroom observations to sort out a complete TPRS teaching demonstration, and for the teaching problems and teaching skills are summarized, including the introduction of experimental classes, teaching preparation, teaching links as well as teaching feedback. The fifth part is based on the actual implementation of TPRS teaching method,it discusses the aspects that can be improved in TPRS teaching in the future and puts forward some ideas and suggestions. Finally,in the conclusion part, summarizes the superiority and limitations of TPRS teaching, and puts forward some areas where existing research is insufficient and needs to be improved.
