Research On Manuel Castells's The Space Of Flows And Its Practical Significance

Space is not only the material basis necessary for the survival and development of human society,but also the product of the development of social practice.With the continuous development of society and the continuous innovation and application of technology,the spatial forms have become more diversified.Especially after the 1970 s and 1980 s,the continuous innovation and application of modern science,and the emergence of cyber virtual space,have completely changed the human society's production methods,lifestyles,and the forms of space on which human society depends.Manuel Castells,the world's first important virtual space philosopher,was the first scholar to study the revolutionary impact and revolution of network information technology on global social development.He has believed that the development of modern science and technology,such as computer and network information technology,has revolutionized the society patterns and the forms of social space on which human beings depend.This huge social change manifests itself in the emergence of new social formations and the extension and expansion of human living space.That's to say,it represents the rise of "network society" and the formation of "space of flows" with cyberspace as the main material basis.The space of flows is the main spatial logic of modern cyber society.Compared with local space,“liquidity” is its essential feature.As a new social spatial organization structure,it controls the flow and development of the global space,which affects the development of the global network society.The main content of this paper is to analyze Castell's space of flows and explore its theoretical sources;outline the impact of the flow space on our actual production,life,and culture,and analyze the new society challenges brought by the space of flows.On these bases,starting from the theory of Custer's criticism of capitalism,this paper analyzes various problems that exist in today's capitalist world.In particular,advanced capitalistcountries have strengthened their control and exploitation of other countries or regions of the world by mastering and utilizing new colonialism,such as modern technology,western culture and so on.Finally,considering today's reality,we should consider how to use this theory to guide us in achieving the goal of co-constructing the " fate of cyberspace community",which was proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping.
