As of the 2010,East China's population was still more than west China's.The spatial distribution of China's population is still characterized by stability and imbalance. It is significance to studying China's population distribution and its influencing factors to formulated relevant policies affecting population distribution. This paper used the county level as the research scale, combined with the fifth and sixth population census data to study China's population distribution and the influencing factors and rationality of China's population distribution in 2000 and 2010 from the perspective of Three Nature Theories of the new economic geography. The results of the study show that:(1)The population density and population share of the provinces varied little between 2000 and 2010.The differences between the provinces still existed. The trend of migration of the population to the eastern region was obvious. The population-intensive areas of China gradually showed an S-shaped curve.(2)From the perspective of provinces, the highest contribution rate of synthetic altitude to the population density are the most, followed by the transportation convenience and the location advantage. The influencing factors vary greatly among provinces.Natural conditions have a decisive role, but the changes in natural conditions are relatively small. With the further improvement of urbanization in China, the population will further develop to a higher level of regional economy, facilitate transportation and location to gather.(3)From the perspective of the three major regions, the combined altitude of the first geographical nature has the greatest impact on the population density of the three major regions, and the contribution rate to population density is always ranked first. The influence of the first, second, and third geographic nature on population density gradually weakens in turn.Natural geography conditions are the foundation, and are still the primary conditions affecting population distribution. The transportation location advantage is the driving force, and the third nature is the further promotion of population aggregation.(4)From the perspective of China, the most negative effect is synthetic altitude, followed by environmental vulnerability. The agricultural production potential is the most positive effect. With the gradual development of China's economy and science and technology, the role of the second geographic nature in the convenience of transportation and geographical advantages has gradually increased, and the spatial aggregation of the population has been promoted, and human capital is gradually playing a role. With the promotion of geographic nature, the S-shaped curve of densely populated areas gradually formed.(5)The regions with the greatest population pressure in China are mainly concentrated in parts of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, southern Xinjiang, western Inner Mongolia,Qinghai,Yunnan, and Sichuan. The moderate population density in the central and eastern regions has certain potential for development. The areas with the largest population potential are mainly distributed in Inner Mongolia,Xinjiang,Qinghai, and a few areas in Gansu, and the overall situation is more reasonable.(6)Topographic conditions, traffic conditions and informationalization are important reasons for the formation of S-curve in densely populated areas. This article comprehensively analyzes the influencing factors of China's population distribution and provides a basis for the development of China's population.
