Time and money are scarce and precious resources: People experience stress about having insufficient time,also worry about having insufficient money.Money is a tangible entity that has the value of exchanging almost everything;Time is more ambiguous,and the value of time is highlighted only in a particular situation.Therefore,in daily life,people often focus more on the financial resources,and strive for the abundance of money,but neglect the meaning of time.Overearning as a tendency,reflect this phenomenon: people excessive "consumption" of time,forgo leisure to put more time into the work for the sake of more money,show a state of sub-health of work and life imbalance.As time and money are also limited social resources,with the development of social economy,people would face more time pressure and money pressure.Whether day-to-day decision making or a major life decision.Life frequently presents time versus money trade-offs.This study focus on the resource orientation,explores what and how time or money resource orientation impact on individual wellbeing.Based on above,this study through two studies,four experiments validate the predecessors' research on overearning,explains the phenomenon from the perspective of resource preference: the nature of overearning embodies the tendency that people prefer having more money than having more time,show a money resources preference;The second study explored the individual differences in the preferences of resources(time and money),as well as the relationship between different resource preferences and individual happiness.Including,the experiment1 discussed whether overearning has the cross-culture consistency serving to test the accuracy of Hsee's results.The results show that there are also overearning exist in the context of Oriental culture,participants in high-earn-rate condition more overearning than the low-earn-rate condition(p<0.01).In experiment 2,the time interval was as variable included in investigate the causes of overearning.The results show that overearning has the universality and stability of cross-culture,people have a tendency to spend more time working to earn more income even overearning.Experiment 3 explains overearning from the perspective of resource preference,which is awarded to people's preference for money resources(relative to more time).Experiments 4 combined individual resources(time,money)preference with specific resources(time,money)allocation decisions,the results provide empirical evidence that different resources preferences affect individual happiness levels;Time resource preference of individual compared with money resources individuals have greater subjective well-being(p < 0.01).To sum up,this study explains the causes of overearning from the perspective of time and money resource orientation.The influence of individual's preference on time resources and money resources on happiness is discussed.The study is both theoretical innovation and application value.It for people to better balance of time and money,the relationship between work/life balance,promote the individual happiness has important guiding significance.
