In the New Curriculum Standard of High School Mathematics,six core qualities of students' development are clearly defined,and one of which is logical reasoning which enables students to think about the real world mathematically.The purpose of this study is to categorize the level of development in logical reasoning and clarify its current status among high school students so as to improve class teaching.This study is carried out through self-compiled test volumes.The research approach known as Angoff Method is used for horizontal division,and the method K-mans Clustering Analysis helps to separate out the specific levels of the performance among different students.In addition,senior high school students of the third year are selected as the investigation objects,and a comparative study of present situation is launched between the students from art and science,male and female etc.The results showed that:(1)the core qualities of logical reasoning can be divided into two dimensions: reasonable and deductive reasoning,and four levels: A,B,C and D;(2)The overall level of logic reasoning of the third year students is not high,and the level of deductive reasoning is superior to that of reasoning;(3)There is no significant difference in the overall level of the students' logical reasoning,but a distinct difference in science and art shows that the former is better than that in the latter;(4)The logical reasoning level of the third year male students in science manifests better than that of the female students,including the girls from art.The acquisition and development of logical reasoning are not taught but lie in the "infiltration" of teaching and the "epiphany" of the students themselves.Therefore,this study suggests that teachers should grasp the essence of teaching content of mathematics,build up mathematical situation in line with the reality of students and furthermore to put forward appropriate questions to guide students to think about mathematical questions,at the same time enough time and space for epiphany should be given.
